From time to time, FCAWA runs or takes part in consumer awareness campaigns. Through these campaigns we try to address perceived gaps in the knowledge of the general public about their rights, responsibilities and best practice tips on financial matters including credit, debt and savings.
- run in partnership with Consumer Protection WA during the summer holidays 2014/15, ‘Don’t Get Burnt’ sought to educate consumers on the rights and responsibilities they have in regards to purchasing, receiving, returning or complaining about goods and services.
In recent years we have seen the rise of property investment spruikers in towns and cities across Australia. These spruikers entice consumers to ‘free’ seminars only to subject them to high-pressure sales tactics to buy books and DVDs and to sign up for more seminars for a fee. Sometimes attendees are encouraged to establish dubious ‘rent-to-buy’ schemes targeting vulnerable consumers, or are pressured to invest in a certain development for which the spruiker has an undisclosed interest.
